About the book

A powerful first-hand account of working for the NHS, both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here is an unbelievable journey to the truth of life as a GP, through spilt urine bottles, the patients who should have been in hospital months ago, existential crises, utterly unexplainable health problems and awkward silences.

Find out why you only get ten minutes with a GP, why you can never see the same doctor and why they are ALWAYS running late. This is what really goes on in your local doctor's surgery, through the tired yet tireless eyes of a doctor who, despite it all, really loves his job.

Thought you knew about the life of a GP? Think again.

Our Librarian’s Review

“This was an upbeat tale that really humanised what goes on behind the calm exterior of a young GP.  Written before the Covid19 pandemic, the author added an afterward commenting on the early effects the virus was having on the way he delivered services to his patients.  The stories of the patients were at times funny and engaging and sometimes also frustrating.  Deeply personal, the stories showed how much the author really cared about the individuals and how it is a constant battle against time, escalating demands and tiredness to ensure that he delivered the best possible care that he could.  Of course the author is using a made up name, so it did make me wonder whether or not all of the experiences were also made up.  I decided it didn't matter as the messages rang true.”
