Our Librarians’ Reviews

“When you pick up a book and read it, and continue to read it, and you have to force yourself to put it down because things like work and sleep have got in the way of you finding out more of what happens, you know you have found a good book. And that is exactly what The Catch is, a good book. Circling round 4 main characters, father, mother, daughter and soon to be son-in-law, there really isn’t too much depth there, we find out about some past events, that really don’t matter in the long run, but essentially it is only Ed, the father, that gets fleshed out at all. Which is a shame, as the main focus of the story isn’t really about him at all. However, to add in more background would have been to take away from the pace of the story, and as I have already said, that was so good that it really was a struggle to put down. Covering just a few weeks from announcing their engagement, to becoming a happily married couple the book covers Ed’s belief that Ryan is not all he is saying he is. TM Logan has done a masterful job of making you think for yourself as you just do not know.”

“I was very excited to receive T. M. Logan's, The Catch.  I enjoy thrillers , so a  writer I had not met before was a great start. This story kept me guessing almost to the end, which is partly what I enjoyed so much about this book - it was very much a 'are all the characters who they seem to be?’, and the challenge was to find clues to check this! It was quite an intense read and had me gripped until the early hours! I thought the characters interacted very well, and particularly around the family tensions that gradually built throughout The Catch. The Nottingham and Derbyshire settings were familiar and made The Catch even more engaging for me. The ending was quite the surprise!”

“I enjoy modern crime on occasion and as a change of pace. I usually enjoy a strong main character that is consistent across a series such as the Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin or the Simon Serrailler series by Susan Hill, so selected a stand alone crime novel was a bit of a gamble. What I enjoyed the most about the book was how the author enabled the reader to slowly get to know the characters and what motivated their actions and behaviours. I also enjoyed that fact that the protagonist is the character that is least understood by the end of the novel. All the character's had shades of good and bad in their character and this made for a more thoughtful read. I felt that the author is not quite so developed in style yet and some of the descriptions did not ring true for me.”
