About the book

Prepare to be swept off your feet by the romantic and irresistible new novel from Sunday Times bestselling author and Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke

London, 1937.

With a new king in place, tensions are rising in London and across Europe. Shaken by the Great Depression and with
talk of another war coming, the Buckingham Hotel is trying to regain some stability.

Upstairs, Vivienne Edgerton is desperate to do something worthwhile with her time and her stepfather's money, rather than spending it on frivolity and debauchery - but will this land her in even more trouble?

And downstairs, chambermaid Nancy Nettleton is finally starting to feel more settled at the Buckingham, and hopes her brother will soon call London home, too. But she misses the man she loves, demonstration dancer Raymond de Guise, who is noticeably absent from the Grand Ballroom dance floor.

The staff and guests of the Buckingham soon discover that in a hotel full of secrets, there's always someone listening . . .

About the author

Anton du Beke is one of the most instantly recognisable professional male Ballroom dancers today. Having become interested in dance at the age of 14 he went on to pursue an amateur dancing career when he left school before turning professional, collecting a number of worldwide and British awards and titles and becoming a leading name on that circuit. He also appeared as a professional dancer on BBC1's hit show Strictly Come Dancing, and having performed in each series since its beginning nine years ago he is very much part of that institution now.

Our Librarian’s Review

“Moonlight over Mayfair is the second novel from Strictly’s Anton Du Beke. Set in the London of 1937, against the backdrop of rising tensions across London and Europe Moonlight over Mayfair follows the lives of the staff and guests of the glamorous Buckingham Hotel. One of the main attractions of the hotel is the magnificent Grand Ballroom, where the demonstration dancers led by Raymond de Guise and Helene Marchmont entertain and dazzle the guests. You can almost hear the music and see the dancers gliding effortlessly by. However, as the plot develops it becomes clear that all is not what it seems at the hotel, beneath the glamour lies intrigue and deception.

There is so much to enjoy in this novel; a large cast of characters that are well drawn and compelling and a plot with many twists and turns. I particularly enjoyed the developing relationship between heiress Vivienne Edgerton and chambermaid, Nancy Nettleton as they delve into the less salubrious parts of the city. This is not my usual choice of read, but it was an entertaining and enjoyable book which I would definitely recommend for its intrigue, romance and of course the glamour of the ballroom.“
